A few hours later and its done. I think that I have found a good stopping point release MooCube version 1.0.

Client Side-Features:

It’s not the Word Press Default.

Banner and Logo change color when you use the mouse-wheel over them.

Banner and Logo colors can be changed using the color buttons.

The Cube Button can be used to bring up the glass view panes. On them can be found recent posts, recent comments, search, RSS Feeds and Login.

It has always been available, but now it is recommended to register as a user of the site. This will make it so you don’t have to put in your information every time you want to comment.

Google Ads displays properly and with non-abrasive colors.

Many new custom icons.

This is a test of the emergency Blockquote system. If this were a real blockquote it would be all quotey and say stuff about things.

Admin-Features:

Built in Google AdSense Manager

Custom color choices of header and logo

All images references contain in CSS

Well documented Code

MooTools implementation

Standards compliant fluid design

IE7 and Firefox compatibility

Widgetized Header, Footer and Sidebar

Known Issues:

Transparent PNG does not always load properly resulting in a darker image. This resolves it self at random times. (Priority: none)

Left glass panes are jumpy in IE. Probably due to float issues, but cause still uncertain. (Priority: very low)

Soon to be updated:

Headers: Glass and Sidebar

Allow multiple posts on the front page

Ability to collapse posts

2-4 More custom icons

If you have any suggestions or questions, I am always open and interested in feedback. Likes, dislikes, loves, hates and neatos. As the designer and programmer, you can often get railroaded into a certain style. Taking a step back and listening to some constructive criticism can go a long way.

I’ve got some ideas already about the journey to v1.5, in addition to the updates I plan to do, but I think I will hold off on them for a bit. It’s been a pretty intense process so far. I’ve had to re-learn CSS, XHTML and PHP. On top of that I had to learn how to build templates for WordPress, utilize the MooTools library and I took the time to learn Dreamweaver.

The life of a programmer never stops, but look for regular posts to start up again soon.

You may notice that things have changed a bit around here. The new template is nearing version 1.0 status. As is, Version 0.9 is stable enough to be implemented for testing purposes. Unfortunately I don’t have an easy way to set up a test server or test location. That means that I will have to test on the live WordPress installation. This is incredibly bad practice, but the only one available.

Some features that you may have noticed:

Use your mousewheel on the banner image to change it’s hue.

The buttons to the right of the content allow you to change the header image to certain preset colors.

The Cube button”explodes” the glass display units.

IE is likely extremely busted right now.

The page, aside from the mootools include, is fairly light weight for what it does.

The page is 99% fluid.

The list of things yet to do for v1.0:

Perfect fonts and styles

Perfect List styles and Blockquotes

Adjust for the short comings of IE

Figure out why comments are not being displayed

In the mean time you can help yourself out by getting Firefox, the only browser you should use.

2007 is coming to a close tonight. We are one year closer to the end of the world. An event that some would say is not too far off if you follow the Mayan calendar or wear a tin foil hat. It was a pretty good year. It saw me learning lots about love. It saw me finish out my undergraduate education. It saw me spend lots of money and hold my only job to last longer than a year. It was in summation a wonderful year and a truly blessed year from a taoist point of view.

Justin’s gift arrived yesterday. It was a collection of all the posts for The Onus. The Onus was a comic that I had put out for about 6 months. I’ve always dreamed of resurrecting it and maybe this gift is just the nudge I needed. It is a truly awesome gift and I thank him very much.

My dad and I have a trip book to go to Ski Paradise this April. That means I have 3 months to get in the best shape of my life. It’s sad that this happens to coincide with all the folks who will make a resolution to lose weight. Luckily Any Time Fitness is open 24hrs. I’ll just have to go at slow times. Elizabeth has decided that she also wants to start working out. This mean that the two of us should be able to motivate each other. She already motivated me to go today. This will be our first trip to the gym and I hope it won’t be our last. I’m making a workout sheet to provide a means of immediate gratification. I’m hoping to turn it into a web application so that I can put it up on the site to provide another means of accountability.

Well it’s time to go get ready to celebrate the new year and say farewell to 2007. A toast to 2007! May 2008 be a continuation of a wonderful life and may it see me through to 2009. Be safe tonight everyone. A $100 cab is worth your life.

…comes great responsibility, is half the battle, is power, corrupts absolutely. Pick which ever you think best fits the situation, but it doesn’t change the fact that I am graduating. The University of Minnesota has found it to be that I am qualified and have met all requirements to be presented a Bachelor of Science in Economics. Ok, so I don’t have the diploma yet, but I have gone through the formalities and I know I passed my final today. (More than just passed I would say.) Econometrics has succumbed to my will. However, I am not without battle scars to show the treacherous path that I have walked.

I’m going through these Monster Cookies at an alarming rate. I can safely say that it is not helping my exercise goals. I really need to build that exercise app. for the site to apply more fictional accountability.

You may notice that Gravatar as well as twitter has been added to the site. If you aren’t part of either app. may I suggest you sign up. It will increase your happiness by 5 points. (You can sign up for both by clicking on their respective links. I promise that it is supper easy.) Becasue I have installed both these apps, I figure that I might as well partake in both. This is why I’m now working on an icon to represent myself. I’ve not had to make a small icon for a long time and since I want it to be used globally across all apps I figure it should be neat. So I’m trying to make a neat icon. Yup, a neat icon.

People don’t say the word neat enough.

During my last commute home from school, I once again came to the conclusion that as a race human beings don’t deserve the right to drive. Everyone is a terrible driver; including myself. I’d like to think I’m better than others, but that is pretentious and I’m sure from a different set of eyes I would be dangerous and aggressive. This is why I think we need to phase out “driving” and”roads” altogether. I have a solid idea and plans for implementation that need a little more work, but I think that it would be the very beneficial solution to many of our problems. It would cut down on CO2 emissions, general stress levels, accidents, reliance on petrol, commute times, shipping costs and countless other issues. Just saying that if anyone is interested in talking about it, I’ve got a lot of ideas.

Next task to work on will be the resume. If anyone knows of a position for a Econ BS Major, Math Minor and Management Minor give me a heads up. In the mean time it’s time to lay the groundwork for a productive future. Here’s hoping that all the knowledge I’ve collected doesn’t corrupt me.

A proper design for this site along with some non-blog related content is in the works. For now, you can sign up for the site and guarantee access to future features. In my current sights is the last final of my undergraduate career. Time to hunker down until Tuesday.

Yesterday (yes, I’m posting a little late, but streaks add unnecessary pressure), was indeed a fun night. After doing some laundry I made my way downtown. The traffic had mysterious slow downs along the way, further proving that humans beings don’t deserve the right to drive. After an abnormally long trip, I stopped to pick up some Subway and some more of that wonderful Winter Bourbon Cask Ale. We watched a snippets of a variety of movies while we waited for all parties to arrive. Elizabeth showed up after her work party. The week can get long and it’s not uncommon for me to go without seeing her 4-5 days at a time. After a little pre-party we made our way to Blarney’s. We secured ourselves a place by the fire and proceed to have a good time. The band was a fantastic cover band. They knew a huge variety of songs. I think their name was “4 Degrees”, but I wasn’t in control of all my faculties so I could be wrong. I got a shout out by the band because I was the only one to cheer when they announced that the drummer was going to play the tambourine. That started off the repertoire between the band and our group. It certainly paid off when Greg humorously requested “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy.” Fully not expecting it to happen, we were all surprised when the band said they knew that one. They would play it but with one caveat; he had to get up and dance. Greg being his big shy self had no real desire to do that. So I told our waitress Katie to pull his butt up there and make him dance. She was successful in getting him up there but if I remember correctly when she found out what the song was she went away and left poor Greg all by himself. Enough peer pressure and the band already playing, Greg remained up on the stage and danced his usual “Greg” style dancing. (It’s something you must see, it’s glorious.) The brave soldier remained up there and things were looking for the worse when some angel from no where shows up to join Greg on the dance floor. Pretty fun night, Laurence and Chris showed up and brought with them a game I haven’t played since high school. (The one where you make the “OK” symbol below your waist somewhere and if you get someone to look at it you get to punch them in the shoulder. Childish, but all in all pretty funny.) Overall, very fun night; capped off with some Burrito Loco. (Attendance: Myself, Elizabeth, JJ, Chops, Greg, Casey, Laurence, Chris)

Today, I yet again drove downtown, but for a much more healthy reason. With the arrival of winter, comes snow and ice. That means that it’s time for 2 of my most favorite things: skiing and hockey. Today was spent playing hockey and Van Cleve Community Park. We spent most of the time trying to deke each other. After that, JJ put on his Goalie pads (At least the pads that he has accumulated so far. He’s still trying to piece together a full set. A for effort!) We started shooting on him in our little open ice area, using our imaginations to figure where the goal should be. After the sun set we remained on the ice and as the rinks cleared out we finally got JJ in a goal where we shot on him some more. Pretty upsetting that the warming house wasn’t open past 3pm on a Saturday; which also meant that the lights wouldn’t come on. After we were tired enough and no longer able to see it was time to split ways. They have something to attend tonight and I have other things to do. Pretty sore right now, but the hot shower felt good. JJ just notified me that apparently one of my shots broke his cell phone. What his cell phone was doing in his pocket while he was playing goalie, will remain a mystery but that’s sad news none the less. Perfect time to buy a new cell phone I say

As far as the site goes. You may or may not notice that the new site has now taken over shatteredcube.com and is finally settled into its permanent home. This means that everyone will need to update their RSS feed. You can do this at the bottom of the web page. Click on the RSS link and if you have Firefox add it to your live bookmarks. (I’m ignorant to the workings of IE or other browsers, sorry!)

I forgot to add a list of movies that I want for Christmas as well, but rather than post them I’d like to ask my readership what it is that they want most for Christmas? If you happen to have a different faith, then what would you like for your respective holiday?

The Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack was released today. I stayed up until 4am to download it and then proceeded to make a map. For those that don’t understand, the game has a “forge” mode that allows you to edit the content of an existing map. It’s much like take the shell of a car and changing all it’s parts. Three hours after release I had finished the map. It’s a tribute to good old 90′s classic, American Gladiators. Okay, so no one who reads this will likely care, but I figured I would just say what I did this morning…before I went to sleep.

Class was pretty uneventful. It was the first of a two part review extravaganza; tomorrow being the second part. It was the last class with one of my favorite teachers – Summers. I liked him because he teaches in sync with my style of learning and could properly answer questions that were asked. He was the TA for this class, Econometrics, but I had had him for a professor in my Financial Economics class. The Final for this class will be on the 18th and after that I will be done with my undergraduate education.

On that note – I graduated, or had the ceremony, this past Sunday on Dec. 9th 2007. I’m glad to still be graduating an “07″. The order of prerequisites could have screwed that up, but I was fortunate enough to only be delayed a single semester. Two classes over two semesters – silly.

The historic posts should be moved over soon. The panel here at Dreamhost was down last night, at least for me. I was unable to get in and it just kind of halted me from doing any more back end work. Funny enough I don’t really need to do anything with Dreamhost, since WordPress has a wonderful way of grabbing those posts without the need of FTP, SSH or any other fancy acronyms. (I lied… I will likely being using RSS which is an acronym.) Lots to look forward to and lots to in the upcoming month. I may have put life on autopilot for the past couple of months but now it’s time to get in gear.

Time’s up! Alright let’s do this!

Shatteredcube 2.0 is underway. However, it is not as previously described. I have decided, with the influence of Justin, to use WordPress as my CMS versus a custom built CMS. It shall be interesting not having to focus on coding and being allowed to work on aspects I find more enjoyable. (Not that I don’t like coding, but having to learn languages all over again can be quite taxing.) So here’s to the future and here’s to providing Fictional Accountability.
