Discussion: Naps

Well I have to go to night class here in a few minutes and I can’t say I’m too excited. I was attacked by all that is evil, a nap. Nothing good comes from a nap. You only find yourself missing hours of time and more tired than when you first fell asleep. It did help the bags under my eyes, but that’s no consolation to the zombie like mindset I now have. All I can think is "urrrg…need caffeine…" That is not healthy thinking! I am firmly against naps; yet every week around 1:00PM on monday I find myself succumbing to its maniacal grasp.

What I ask everyone is: What is your position on naps?

Do you view them as a boon above all others to mankind or as the messenger of satan? It’s ok to find middle ground too, but "Naps are….ok" doesn’t sound as exciting.

shatter a cube, and damn naps!

  1. Naps are Evil!!!

They try and make you miss midterms and stuff!!!!

  2. Naps are good when you don’t actually fall asleep but get really close and it lasts for about 10-15 mins, it’s just refreshing enough to really wake you up. Other than that all they do is make you more tired than you were to begin with, and mess up your sleeping schedule so you don’t sleep that night.
So, I vote evil because it’s rare to get thr right kind of power nap.

  3. Personally, I think you all are mistaken. Naps are wonderful, why do you think when you are little your parents make you take them? Especially on days when you get up early after a late night, naps help to rejuvinate you and give you the energy to finish the day.
I can see how you would think naps are evil if they caused you some harm but I have never had a bad nap experience.
    so I say nap!

  4. Naps rule!!!!

Seriously, when you finish napping things always just seem better. I take naps as often as possible.

  5. Depends on why you take the nap.

If you take a nap because you have only gotten 3 hours of sleep per night for the last several days, well then it’s not a nap, it’s sleep…..

If you take a nap because of too much party participation, well that’s not a nap either, that’s a hangover … Trust me on that one …

Naps when you are little are as much for your parents benefit as yours — Trust me on that one too ….

If you take a nap because you just can’t stand the idea of doing that paper for Womens Studies, that’s not a nap, that’s avoiding the inevitable. In this case you actually have more stress after the nap than when you started the nap.

Naps just to catch up a bit can be good, but only if you get up and get going as soon as it is over. Otherwise, it can really drag you down and make you over tired.

In many ways the relaxation and refreshment you can get from a nap is kind of like the benefit you can get from self hypnosis. It is relaxation without hitting that really deep sleep. This can help you avoid the 90 minute sleep cycle phenomena. This is also similar to meditation.

    Is this Shattered enough??
