It’s as if many days have collapsed…

So I just changed it so the date command works properly as opposed to manually typing it in. This is to make it easier on my CMS (Content Management System). I don’t have the correct date in the format I want for the previous posts so they all get the same stamp. I have deleted all the test items in the musings page and will only put real items up from now on. That’s all for now, good night most likely because I won’t be posting for a few days as I build the CMS and get stuff to populate the musings page.

Victory is mine!

So I rocked MySQL’s world.

I got a relational database working that auto detects different types of musings and automatically, through php, creates a list for those musings. There is some manual input needed, mostly just a single entry in one database, but it truly is a nice streamlined way of doing things. I realize it isn’t rocket science, but it does get the job done.

That’s pretty much what I wanted to say this evening. With that I think I may just be off to bed before the sun comes up. Or maybe I could get started on the content management system that is looming over my head. If anyone has an idea how to get out of this it would be greatly appreciated. I would rather write some content than try and get a content management system up an working, even though it would be a great learning experience.

I appologize for any spelling or gramatical errors in this short piece of writing. It’s what you get from a shatteredcube and from a tired college student at 2:26 in the morning.

Good night all!

This stuff is fun…

Finals are over. That is grand. I pulled off a 3.75 this semester. I must say that I am rather proud of it, let’s hope I keep it up.

Needless to say that was the main cause for the lack of work on shatteredcube. It’s the summer and I am trying to be productive so I have begun to work once more on the site. My current challenge, which I think I have just solved as I type this, is to find a way to create dynamic link lists without knowing how many different lists I need and how many things belong in that list. I must do this using one database. I choose one because I don’t need to make a new database for each type then and it saves on effort and space — I hope. I think I have found how I fill do it and I am rather proud because it only took a little bit of searching to figure it out.

As for now I continue to look for a job. I prefer one that involves web design, but you can’t always have your cake and eat it too. With that thought in mind I have applied to a variety of jobs. I assume one will bite and I will have something to do this summer. Yes, I actually like to work. Something about keeping busy and achieving goals is very satisfying.

Also, this summer starting on the 14th of June I will be attending a summer class. This class’s sole purpose is to improve my GPA and increase the probability of me getting into CSOM (Carlson School of Business and Management.) In addition I will need to join some clubs and activities. I am looking at the Supply Chain Management club as well as my desired major the MIS club. Who knows, I might also run for MSA (No, not the school I attended for a couple of years. It’s the Minnesota Student Association.) It looked interesting helping my friend run for president last year. Definitely something I would be interested in.

Ok, that’s about all for now. I need to continue on building the Musings page. After that my worst fear lies ahead –- a content management system. Good bye for now.

Have you shattered a cube today?

That’s one small step for mankind…

…and one giant leap into a new world. It’s been a while since I last posted on the internet because I went out into the sunlight and discovered the joy that is people. (Well mostly joy anyway.) Spent a year or so with that idea and decided it was time that I started doing something with my life; and began to take action in forming a business. The business takes shape in a web design/web hosting/whatever else we do kind of idea. This has been a long time dream of my friend, webmaster over at rinsefirst, and me. We are finally getting a solid start on it with our first major step in buying co-location space. For those who don’t know what that means don’t worry. All you need to know is that it means you can access all of the sites hosted under JRCorps faster and with more reliability. It also means that if you decide to host with our reasonable rates and solid customer service we are able to provide you with many more services.

Did I just work an advertisement into that last paragraph? Anyway…as I was saying, this is looking to be like a great step in the right direction. I’m hoping to join in with some of the designing going on (Not normally the task of the CEO) and that is where we come to the “shatteredcube”. I created it as a kind of test ground and a place to show off my design skills and to further learn the many languages that make up the pages you see.

The whole idea behind the name “shatteredcube” is that the web has been growing at an exponential rate and with each growth it becomes uglier and uglier because it is confined to what people have been doing since the beginning. I’ll admit that it was even hard for me to give up my old ways in favor of the new standards proposed by the w3c. However, it is plain to see that this is the way of the future and for the sake of the internet we need to start realizing it’s potential.

For the time being the web site will be visually under construction and if you are visiting it is likely that there is nothing really for you to see. Do not fret because that tends to be the norm with a web site; links broken, missing element, nothing in a database, non-existent image, failing sessions, slow downs, etc. It’s the price you pay for reading a newspaper in a test site.

Not much else to say but I look forward to your returning visits and if you need any web design done drop me an email at richard@shatteredcube.com and I will find the most suitable designer for your needs.
